The Pen Shop is an established retailer of pens and stationery, having opened in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1946. They are a supplier of luxury pens such as Mont Blanc, Caran D’Ache and Montegrappa as well as favourites like Parker and Cross. I produced campaigns for summer and Christmas for a number of years as well as three editions of their yearly catalogue.
Engaging people with the almost lost art of writing was a challenge in itself, so I took the approach of recording our lives in a tangible and visceral way. We take thousands of photographs to document our lives these days, but rarely write down our thoughts, dreams and sorrows. Writing is personal, and so is our choice of pens. Each pen can tell its own story and be as individual as its owner.
